“Mapboxes, " as invented by Susan Armington, are small boxes with tiny maps and “clues”on the cover.  They open and unfold a closer-up view of the landscape with moving pop-ups and 3-D buildings.  I teach:

mapbox design, point of view, collaging colors and textures, the secret of pop-ups, drawing with shapes, easy 3-D paper sculpture, and techniques for customizing the map and cover with a symbolic clue.

I collaborate with teachers to deepen the students excitement and personal interest in their theme. The mapboxes on this page were made by 3rd graders on themes of Ancient Rome or World Rivers.
